How to Use the Time Card Calculator
- Enter clock in and clock out for each working day
- Untick days you did not work — they simply stay at zero
- Deduct unpaid breaks in minutes, or switch to break start/end entry
- Add another shift to a day when you worked split hours
- Read the daily total, then the weekly total, decimal hours and overtime
How Work Hours Are Calculated
Each shift is converted to a duration in whole seconds, so 09:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 17:30 add up to exactly 7 hours 30 minutes. Unpaid breaks are subtracted from the day total, and days marked as not worked contribute zero.
The weekly total is the sum of the daily totals. Decimal hours are calculated at the end by dividing minutes by 60 — 7 hours 30 minutes is 7.50 decimal hours.
How Breaks Are Deducted
Breaks can be entered as minutes per day or as an actual break start and end time. Only one method applies at a time, so a break is never deducted twice. If the break time is longer than the shift, the calculator shows a clear warning instead of a negative day.
Regular Hours and Overtime Hours
When the weekly total passes the threshold you set (40 hours by default), the extra time is shown as overtime. This is a simple arithmetic split for planning purposes — overtime rules vary by country, state, employer and employment type.
Rounding Is Optional
No rounding is applied by default. If your employer rounds punch times, you can select the nearest 1, 5, 6, 10 or 15 minutes and the totals update deterministically. Rounding rules can vary by employer and jurisdiction.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add more than one shift per day?
Yes. Use “Add another shift” on any day for split shifts such as 09:00–12:00 and 13:00–17:30. All shifts on a day are summed.
How do I handle an overnight shift?
Enter the clock in and clock out as usual. If the clock out is earlier than the clock in, the calculator treats it as ending the next day — 22:00 to 06:00 is 8 hours.
Can I export the time card?
Yes. “Download CSV” creates a spreadsheet-ready file in your browser. Day names and times are exported as plain text, and formula-like text is neutralised for spreadsheet safety.
Is my time card data stored online?
No. Everything is calculated and exported in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and the times you enter are not sent to analytics.
